Some reading for a lazy day, or in my case to avoid my rampaging rugrats.

Was looking at one of the most recent drug candidates, Pleconaril, in the treatment of Rhinovirus. It had completed Phase III trials back in 2000-ish with a reduction in severity & duration of about 1 day (similar to Relenza/Tamipoo benefits for influenza). Was later rejected by FDA on safety grounds.

Anyhoo, the summary of the trial results included in the drug application makes for some interesting reading (page 104-108)

I also found this study below which indicated BTA's current HRV candidate was around 10x more "active" than the above Pleconaril (page 11). Does "active" mean "potent"?

Merck subsequently took up the rights to the rejected Pleconaril and completed a Phase II trial in 2007 but I cant find any results on google.
