These are the breeding areas of the western yellow-billed cuckoo in Arizona. (Yellow is the migration area; they "winter" in South America, where it is summer or at least equatorial.) In the western United States, the western yellow-billed cuckoo prefers healthy riparian areas. It frequently nests in willows along rivers and streams, and forages nearby in cottonwoods. The cuckoo is only "threatened;" the "endangered" bird near Big Sandy is the southwestern willow flycatcher.

You can complain all you want about laws that protect wildlife, but Americans are required to follow them and Australians should respect that.
