VCPL was going to invest $400 mill in the Latrobe Valley when the licence was issued last year. Since then ECT have made major advances to the pilot plant ensuring 24 hour production while creating large scale test burn samples. The Chinese have express interest in the project with additional offtake and now the Capex for the Victorian plant has been slashed by $100 million
IMO the company maker was the hookup with JC Steele and Sons last year. This partnership has IMO obviously increased the output per module by 30%.
Prior to JC each module was to produce 170,000 tonnes a year
I worked out that 2mt / 170ktpa would = 12 modules
$400m / 12 = $33million per module
Now it cost $300mill or 33% cheaper in the face of rising steel and power prices?
IMO the new JC gear is producing 30% more (220ktpa) thus only requiring 9 moduels at the same cost as previously stated
Add to this some more savings from the tender process and the cost get even better
