The oldest trick in the world Amory, present an argument in a logical manner with a true premise (“a rumor is a rumor is a rumor”) then straight away slip in an opinion as if it were a fact (“anyone who attempts (by quoting creditable sources or presenting some plausible rationale) to enhance its credibility, deserves none themselves”)
The folly in your argument is that not all rumors are false, just as all are not true. As with everything there exists a continuum between these two extremes and within the continuum often lye grains of truth. One of the objects of discussion is to test ideas/rumors/thoughts in order to seek truth/clarity.
But according to your “logic”, apparently, nothing but proven fact can ever be discussed or considered.
If that were the case how would anything ever get proven if it could not be considered until proven . . . . "chicken or the egg" stuff !!!
Finally, my senilely conceited “friend”, respect is an EARNED commodity not a demanded one
