I have not been enthusiastic about the prospect of commercial helium in the southern Amadeus since this post appeared on Hot Copper on 28 October 2015:

"They have explained what happened with Mt Kitty. They analysed the sidewall cores taken during logging and those revealed that what they thought was the target reservoir Heavitree Quartzite was actually not there, and the gas flows (including helium) were coming from fractured granitic basement.
Fractured basement can sometimes be a reservoir but it requires a very special set of circumstances. The result has added to the prospectivity of that whole region, they just need to find areas where that target reservoir is present. There is a pretty good chance of them finding a tight, charged reservoir there.
So yes, Helium is still on the table but unfortunately Santos aren't in the mood."

I missed the explanation to which the post refers but I am confident that the post is accurate. I think the author was psi81 but I am not sure. It was certainly one of our very reliable posters.

I feel that "still on the table" is not the most bullish of outlooks. What the overall message of the post says to me is that we have not made a truly significant discovery at Mt Kitty.

    Delighted to be proven wrong.
