Specialist pharmaceutical companies like CSL and its equivalent in the US, Baxter, operate in pretty much a closed shop [barriers for newcomers are too difficult and expensive to overcome].

Plasma derived from blood and vaccines are their thing; this is not going to change anytime soon.

Discovering new vaccines, new uses for existing vaccines and novel applications for plasma is where these companies suddenly become exciting.

[eg] The hugely succesful Gardasil vaccine to prevent the spread of cervical cancer in females is being seriously looked at for what it can do for the corresponding male population. Secondly Baxter is well progressed in Clinical Phase III trials to establish, what they already have shown, that one of their plasma products does slow the deleterious effects on the brain of the unfortunate sufferers of Alzeimhers.

And you never really know what can suddenly pop up out of the R&D departments of these highly secretive and successful companies.
