The question of plant capacity vs capex vs CTP's retained interest is the where JH will earn his pay.

CTP's problem is its balance sheet. CHK is one of the premier O&G companies in the US and is something for CTP to admire but not be compared with - although I think what you were saying is the POWER of a JV even at the size of a CHK.

RB - is capex for plant capacity of 20K/day really that high? If it were lower I think A1 has it right to build a bigger plant.

The other thing of course is why only have 1 JV for CTL? Maybe 2 JVs or a syndicate so as to increase plant capacity.

CTP is an interesting stock.

Note to CamdenBob -
you may be right with Coal India being largest coal producer. Read recently it's more of state owned amalgamation of mines (so not really comparable to a listed company though) and a little hard to get to the real factual numbers they produce - but they are big.
