I just watched a re-run of that documentary about him on channel 2 (you can probably get it on Netflix, but there might be another re-run on TV); he was quite an amazing man - I had no idea, never read Playboy, but never really bought expensive magazines of any kind and Playboy wasn't something you'd pick up at the doctor's or dentist'. His magazine and the articles appearing in it seem to have moved America forward in regard to sexual and racial liberation.

In the early days of discrimination based on colour he sponsored artists of colour when they were banned in most white clubs, rooted for Martin Luther King and also brought about more liberated ideas about birth control etc. which in the end benefit us all, but in the U.S. made life easier for women.

The fact that he surrounded himself with young beautiful women is nothing new under the sun AND he had the money and palatial surroundings to make it worthwhile for them.
The documentary probably contained a bit of hagiography as well, but there are a lot of facts in it, which are interesting if you are a student of America - or - contemporary history.
