There's little doubt that recent few days' movements were heavily influenced by shorts (chart below, yellow line is aggregate shorts positions, gray line is sp, showing inverse correlation). While it shows shorts' power over sp, I also see that there's disagreement among shorts themselves, as some chose to cover while others chose to try their luck.
