Coburn Mineral Sands
Coburn is located 250kms north of Geraldton in WA, immediately south of Shark Bay and just outside the eastern boundary of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. The Western Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has recommended Coburn’s environmental approval, an important step given proximity to this World Heritage Area. Coburn’s main asset is the Amy Zone deposit which is approximately 35km long by up to 3km wide. Amy Zone will be mined from south to north, to take advantage of lower overburden, higher zircon content and proximity to Geraldton. Zircon accounts for over 60% of Coburn’s total value and will be GUN’s main focus. Most zircon is mined as a by product of titanium rich sands. Coburn has an attractive titanium to zircon ratio of 1.6 compared to other development projects including Iluka’s Douglas (3.5) and Min Deposits’ Senegal (4.0).
