On Saturday 20 March 2021 at 0900 hours, it appears that coal trains bound for, or from, Kooragang Island may be all stopped.
If so, this will adversely affect mines like Stratford.
This wouldn't surprise as Maitland Airport had 67.8mm in the 24 hours to 0900, while Singleton had 65.2mm.
Historically, the Maitland-Hexham area through which the main Hunter Valley rail lines travel (and play host to tens of millions of tonnes of export coal per annum) have been very subject to major flooding.
We'll have to await confirmation but whether rail lines and signalling infrastructure have been damaged will become clear if the media ask the Australian Rail Track Corporation or start taking photos in the area.
