The buyers need to be willing to pay the sellers price and actually execute the trade. The buyers and sellers you see lined up are just that. Waiting for someone to pay for or buy for the price they have put in their order.
When you purchase shares from the sellers side at a given price, the number of shares will be subtracted from that spot price and added to your portfolio.
The SP is essentially what people are willing to pay for a share.
