IMO Hybrids are merely a transition to full EVs with the PHEV in the middle.
While Hybrids and full EVs are making headway in the market
the PHEVs are struggling which, IMO, is all about cost.
The PHEV is almost as expensive as full blown EV with the encumbrance
(some might say benefit) on the ICE. For that reason its hard to see why
a PHEV is cheaper than the equivalent full EV.
At this stage I tend to favour Hybrids and in particular the Toyota Hybrid
simply because Toyota pioneered the Hybrid and up to now has the
lions share of that market.
And my favourite hybrid is the Vitz (here the Yaris Hybrid)
Its small outside but surprisingly roomy in the drivers seat
and for those of us over 6 foot tall, there is no need to break
a neck getting in or out . Of course like all hybrids it has its
ideal position in the market; that of being predominantly a
city car where there is limited opportunity/time for mains battery
recharging and the peace of mind of not being stranded on
that occasional out of town trip.
