We have spent the past decade harmonising between states, so not that big a step to adopt theirs.
We can always gradually work our way into their fuel and efficiency standards , but is it worth the costs to us of being isolated from everyone else on other stuff.

I can't imagine that the Europeans or Japanese are less concerned than us about safety.
I want my Kei car! Preferably electric, 120 to 150km range will do.

Actually , not that cheap , but a Nissan Sakura just looks too cool , add in the ability to use the battery for domestic power storage , the perfect city/2nd car.
I will probably be dead before it gets here, grrr.
