The multinationals although no longer manufacturing here call the shot when it comes to what is imported and what is not.
We have a Free Trade Agreement with Japan and Japan is one of the leading auto manufacturing countries when it comes to quality (my apologies to European car lovers ) and IMO JDM models are the best of Japanese..yet we are not allowed to profit from the Japanese FTA. One has to seriously ask who is our Government legislating for?
At present one can buy a late model Camry hybrid in Japan for half its Aus price; and wouldn't our Taxis love it if they were allowed to import these Camrys.
