In 1998 there was only 1 mass produced hybrid (Prius)
and 12 years later there were only 2 mass produced EVs
(Renault-Nissan Leaf & the Chev Volt).

Now consider the number of Hybrids, Plig-in Hybrids
and full EVs that there are now.

While Toyota has maintained its first starter advantage
in Hybrids, the same can't be said about Nissan/Renault
    & Chev in full electrics.
Tesla dominates the full Electric EV market in Aus while
Toyota does ditto in Hybrids: (source Drive)

The trend for 2023 is that the Full EVs are creeping up on the Hybrids and, IMO,
full Electrics will be very close the Hybrids by the year's end.
