Yes the EVs will need to be charged but with bidirectional charging/V2X they will be able to give back a user defined proportion of that charge during the evening demand period to ease the peak loads on the power network.
Hundreds of thousands of connected EVs would make an immense virtual "power station" evenly distributed throughout our populated areas and TOU tariffs will provide a non government incentive for EV and home battery owners to participate.
