(a) NMH batteries are rebuildable
(there are the most NMH batteries in Aus than lithium because its Toyota's preferred Hybrid battery)
Infinitiv rebuilds them at prices ranging from $1500 for a 20 cell battery to $2100 for a 28 cell one.
(b) Lithium is very recyclable:

The bottom line is that EVs are here to stay for the foreseeable future
and BYD in conjunction with Toyota has developed the Blade Battery
which is more flexible/durable than the standard Lithium job:
