As I see it mild hybrids are currently the best option for those who don't live anywhere near a city. They also have a lot of grunt.
Dedicated EVs aren't environmental if the electricity comes from fossil fuel but I do like the idea of not being tied to Middle East oil.
Introduction of solid state batteries in coming years will change all the numbers IMHO. Availabilty of smaller, cheaper, more powerful batteries will see ICE engined cars dumped for $$$ reasons. Environment will have nothing to do with it.
