I might add a bit more to this well thought through piece having lived off grid for more than 30 years now.
The clowns pushing the unreliables thesis only ever tell half of the story. Ie they quote the usage by the theory not the practice. eg when you plug in a 1/2hp electric motor which they quote, it actually draws near 1 hp. with some line loses etc there goes 40%. m#sk is on record saying that an electric motor is 95% efficient He is a liar. I emailed him explaining why the power wall would never work off grid like he promoted, the first version was 40% too small to work. It never made it to market and the V2 was brought out.
When they quote lithium battery storage effectively you cant use the top 20% or the bottom 20%, of the battery capacity...with a few other losses there goes another 40%...
Anywhere in OZ... I have lived in every state... at the absolute minimum, you get five days twice per year where you get zero solar input....there are numerous other instances of 2 days at a time, and they talk about hrs of storage required. Idiots.
This is only the beginning of their bs as Dick has illustrated.
Don't forget these losses go on for the life of the installation.
Work it out over the 60 to 80 year life span of nuclear and work out how cost effective nuclear is...It aint that bloody hard.rolleyes.png
