I would suspect that the entire EV story might change with a single invention or innovation many times in the next ? 20 or 30 years.

and of course, we're only talking EV's. The big mover may well be self drives - where things like range just won't matter. You may well be able to set off on a 2000 km trip in a 'car'.
A self drive which is hired - it turns up and off you go. When it's about to run out of power. It stops and you transfer into another one.

I agree.....just an extension of the e-scooter gig.

For that reason, quality of product and or reliability
won't count for much....just initial capital outlay and
subsequent income.

This is why in the ICE rental market MG is making massive inroads.
They are cheap and have extend powertrain warranty .
