Trade: (a) Reduces Aus import bill by $30 Billion P/A (b) although new EVs are 25% more expensive on average, this price difference can be offset by allowing Used Japanese EVs in lieu of new EV imports
Environment and health (clean air) (a) drastically reduce Aus transport CO2 and NOX emissions
So in summary, both from macro-economic and environmental/ health points of view; it a no brainer
PS: Two mega residential developments in my suburb have planned for 12 and 6 communal EVs respectively with fast charging from rooftop solar panels.
