For the first time in its 94-year history of providing vehicles to the Vatican, Mercedes-Benz has delivered an all-electric G-Class to serve as the official Popemobile.
This move aligns with the Vatican’s commitment to sustainability and Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si,” which calls for environmental responsibility.
As per the automaker, this G580 with EQ technology boasts a combined energy consumption of 30.4-27.7 kWh/100 km and zero CO2 emissions.
“With the new Popemobile, Pope Francis is the first pope to be travelling in a fully electric Mercedes-Benz when making public appearances,” said Ola Källenius, chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
“With this Popemobile, we are also sending out a clear call for electromobility and decarbonization.”
