I didn't read your links, but as to the latter link, I've read a lot in the past.
Everytime I think about that, dogs and breeding comes to mind. Dogs with the crossbreeding being tougher and more disease resistant in the previous years as a 'general rule' or a 'tendency'.
I can't see any logical link between the doggies and hybrid cars - but, Hybrid reliability makes no instant common sense. Indeed before the facts, I would have thought that they had to be the worst possible - because the more complexity, the more room for problems.
But it isn't so. So, I have often pondered if there isn't something philosophical going on there that we are missing.
Some kind of 'ah ha' moment that someone will point out one day.
Sometimes you see arguments like this
''That comes down to how hybrids are designed and built. Hybrid tech is built on top of refined ICE technologies. It’s also an improvement on them and receives more research and development money these days as the industry pushes toward all electric cars.
You also see something unique in hybrid cars: redundant technologies. While newer tech might fail or glitch out quite a bit, with hybrids, the end consumer is going to experience the final product as more reliable because many systems for electric operation have ICE standard technology as a backup, and vice versa. So even when one system fails, the other will take over and still function just fine.''
Now whilst in theory that could stack up soundly for a 'get home' kind of reliability if well engineered for separation and redundancy,
it doesn't stack up for overall reliability
simply if you have 2 machines - you should have more problems than if you have one machine. And if you marry two machines together, well - sometimes it's a marriage made in heaven, but often - like people, they just don't get on and spooning is out of the question.
But, in general - dogs and cars have this habit - so - I ask, are we missing something?
