I refrained from saying that we were more like the yanks than not - but yes, I agree in many ways
I don’t blame Oz for the culture we have - because I think it comes from probably a few reasons which would have been pretty hard to avoid, such as
: convict beginnings - convicts are often survivors, they did what they did to survive. Unable to be up levels on Maslow’s scale. And that glues itself into the DNA
: it was a colony not long back - and in a bloody harsh land where starvation was a real threat and people took what they could to survive individually
: it’s isolated and remote-
: it’s a federation- it’s rarely worked towards being a nation
it’s impossible to think as an Ozzie if one was stuck with state laws and taxes
particularly in cases where federal and state laws and taxes worked against citizens
people in that case just begin to work for themselves.
