Hi Mooroo , Global car manufacturing a 2.58Trillion market world wide. Australian gdp 1.98 Trillion Apart from China , world production declining . We can do very nicely out of supplying those with the raw materials to decarbonise the world's transport fleets. Australia becoming a big manufacturer, not going to happen. Cant , and shouldn't , compete on wages, logistics , subsidies.
I am perfectly happy for someone to set up a car manufacturing plant , or car inputs plant . Just use their money , not mine , or money that might have run schools or hospitals to get them started.
Just because China is doing well , doesn't mean we will , or need to with auto manufacturing.
With our natural resources , renewable energy potential , agricultural land and service industries , we are doing fine , and should continue to do so. Our best chance of increasing manufacturing and value adding is maximising our renewable energy potential[ without subsidising it] cheers
