I am afraid the obvious question for me is ''Why bother''.
Despite the cries of woe , there is no evidence that we need to do what you suggest.
How rich do you think we need to be.
I dont care if Singapore or Saudi Arabia has passed us by. If anyone feels diminished by the up and down nature of the ''league table'', that is their problem.
Note: Australia still way up there on standard of living.
40 years ago the cries of woe started. They were justified.
The response[ and it was a good one ] was to open up the economy and then concentrate on things where we had a competitive advantage.
Things have gone well since.
The ''naysayers '' , according to you are just lacking in confidence.
I would say the ''naysayers'' are right.
And you have come up with no cogent reasons why should follow your presciption.
The same things were being said 20 and 30 years ago , they have proved to be wrong , if the outcome today, not your fears of what the outcome might be , are looked at sensibly.
