''.....We need solutions rather than shoot
    from the hip negativity.''

I agree that solutions 'were' needed - (I think it's too late now for solutions - IMO we would be trying to revive a corpse)

but that doesn't mean that 'any solution' will do --------------- I think that manufacturing is the wrong way to go - as I've stated many times and WHY. - I don't think Oz is the place to make widgets - never has been and particularly now where the widget you make today is superseded tomorrow - so you need to dismantle your filthy factory and remake it so it can run more dirty and make different widgets ---------------- rinse and repeat.

If there is a hope now - I think it's still a possible to get some traction if we could fund it - by funding research and innovation - I believe that we are merely on the cusp of technological advancement - whilst we think that we are well advanced - I see it that we have merely begun.

How to fund it - I would go down the path of renting permanent nuclear waste storage ------ I'd put together a big plan - one that involved the storage and part payment of some power stations, I'd build into the plan education spending, a true national savings fund (untouchable by politicians) --- and I'd fund things like SEZ's etc for research, development etc. - with strict rules on where proceeds go.

    ''You mention risk .
We Aussies trash over $60 Billion a year gambling
with little or no hope or Buckleys of getting a return.''

oh, I think there's far worse than that ------------- my number one would be housing - the great Ozzie dream - turned into a gambling casino all by itself ------------- with HUGE speculative prices
