Fortunately such scenes are not in the area I live in but bear in mind that a normal passenger car is designed for transporting 5 passengers. When you are driving have a good look round you and see how many cars are filled with maximum passengers. It's absurd to have so many cars on the roads in major cities with only one or two occupants per vehicle and yet so many still want to move to those already huge congested cities.
Then consider how many railway tracks have disappeared in favour of 'freedom machines' needing multiple lane highways. Just one modern bi-level railway carriage can carry around 100 passengers - potentially 100 less car congestion. But where is the spend on such systems as high speed intercity/interstate train networks with affordable fares??
But wait, if people had reliable public transport some may forego vehicle ownership and govt revenues would fall as less rego fee collections, less parking tickets needing to be bought with no chance of being fined for overstays, no speeding tickets, less petrol usage less work for mechanics but healthier people due to less pollution and more exercise with a little bit more walking. And overall much better for the environment but no so much for govt coffers or consumption driven economies.
Consider also the foregoing of cargo transport via railways by instead replacing such with 'road trains'. Just one load of diesel powered train could take at least 50 roadtrains off the roads but some seem to prefer to get rid of trains. Guess 50 road trains means 50 registrations thus regular government income - not much such fee income from one diesel train.
So before you blame the ICE vehicle for the world's ills ask why such has been pushed onto the masses in the first place - but wait a the answer is already clear - it is claimed it was done at the time by sensible people for sensible reasons.
