There are two distinctive features of electrical losses:

• They increase the further away the generation is from demand as resistance increases with distance.
• They increase quadratically to the electrical power transmitted.

For petrol or diesel - energy for
Crude Oil extraction -> shipping to refinery -> refinery/distillation -> shipping to country bulk storage -> trucking to petrol stations -> petrol pump

Lots of 'losses' from extraction to delivery to ICE fuel tank!
