    I was responding to the poster's example and
    putting a better "back of the envelope" calculation to it.

    I made no point about the choices people will make in their decision- making.
    I agree with you that it is likely that governments will force the consumers hands regardless of the reality of costs v benefits of various industry and consumer segments.
    No doubt there will be massive upheavals in 'equity' related to those various stakeholders, driven by whichever / whomever wields the greatest power of policy and ability to conform.
    Your point about what will be 'economic' and relationship with supertax/subsidies is quite right.
