The rental market has always favoured the cheapest to buy
models because renters simply don't value fuel economy,
durability, reliability etc etc .
During the 80s when Budget kicked off some of the low
volume models such as Volvo cut the price dramatically
to get in there for promotional purposes and part of the parcel
was a sweetheart Operating Least-fully maintained-buy back
2 year package . This also kicked off the "Quality Used Car"
program,......2 year old cars with 40,000 Ks.
This kind of package sets depreciation and operating costs
with exception of rego, insurance , tyres and panel/paint damage .
The average individual punter doesn't know what the cost of ownership
and , IMO, doesn't want to .
But back to EVs, I have seen heaps of BYDs recently including some
on Uber!
