what a lot of people just don't get is that EV's will sweep the field away. They might have some supply issues in the transition period, exactly like it would have been going from horses to petrol --------- or more correctly horses and EV's to petrol -
but, it won't take long at all - and once that critical point is tipped - where our self serve servos just won't cut it for profit - they will get less and less places to buy petrol and it'll get more and more expensive
it might be cheaper for a while in a last ditch attempt to hold on - but, in rapid time - she'll be goodnight Irene
The wildcard in the pack will be Self Drives - they really are the one that's going to upset the apple cart. When auto companies finally iron out all the wrinkles there and self drives actually can do what they promise -
the EV 'revolution' will look like a minor blip in societal change - if people think that the change from petrol and diesel to EV is significant - then, they ain't seen nothing yet when the self drives come to town.
Self drives just won't change things like servos and business models for selling cars and a bit of jostling in real estate housing etc.
self drives will change much of society - those big supermarket car parks ----- gone. Those inner city car parks - gone. Home garages - gone. Car dealerships - probably almost gone with EV's mostly, but the self drives will send them to a final grave.
Parking along streets - gone.
No one is going to own their own personal transport when they can get personal private transport on demand at some ridiculously small fraction of the price of car ownership - with zero parking to do, with zero ownership issues - like servicing, depreciation, driving requirements like licences, no car accidents, no washing the car, ----------- pffffffffffft, all gone.
