Governments have been looking at revenue from fuel taxes for at least a decade. Not just Australia either .
Long before evs became a thing.
Once again, it's an area that 9 years of the COALition failed to address.
Road funding doesn't come directly from fuel excise. They changed that years ago.
However, revenue amounts have been falling for a long time and no doubt in a decade or so they will be very small.
lt's one of the many elephants in the room that no one is talking about.
The Victorian government embarrassed themselves with their poorly though out model which they had to cancel.
l can only hope that Treasury is working on something decent behind the scenes that will be ready for rollout nationally in a few years.
l expect that the government won't want to talk about it for a while yet for the usual reasons.
