Toyota hybrids are excellent vehicles and should be considered, if for no other reason.
Thinking of them as an EV Lite is wrong though, they are an ICE with regenerative braking. Conceptually the HV battery could degrade 75% and your range would still be determined by the size of your fuel tank, less a little because the hybrid system is not working efficiently. As long as there is enough oomph in the battery to spin the hybrid motor and engage the ICE you are a Go!
My 14 yr old Camry's HV battery is still in good condition and the 12V battery lasted until last year - it doesn't have to crank the motor.
PHEVs are the worst of both worlds, methinks. A couple of years ago I would have loved the RAV4 but I've cooled on that now.
Check with me in six years, I may still have the Camry, the best daily drive I've ever owned by a country mile.
