EV's are supposed to be cheap to charge - surprise surprise, the chap in the following video is finding out otherwise when out and about:

Plus EV's have non-linear charging and for battery longevity, charging is recommended to only 80% of capacity. The non linear charging means that charging from 80-100% takes the most amount of time in the charging process. However, when the range for an EV is quoted, it's doubtful the figure is based on the 80% recommended charge range, thus the actual 'effective' range is lower than quoted. As it is, it seems the quoted range for EV's are somewhat overly estimated.

In any event, a lot of ICE vehicles would go further with a tank filled to only 80% than an EV at 100% full charge and of course the filling of any ICE vehicle is at a fraction of time by comparison to charging any EV.

Since so much talk has focused around charging costs and claimed savings, it's worth noting that if one is worried about the cost of charging after forking out huge amounts of money for an EV purchase then one should hold off purchasing such vehicles in the first place - of course equally so if one only worries about fuel costs for an ICE vehicle. If the measure of vehicle affordability comes down only to the cost of powering a vehicle then something is a little off.

To sum up - it's the total sum of the individual parts that counts. AIMO
