This is where l would like to see a bit of entrepreneurship appear .

    Something a bit Elon Musk-ish.

We already have a duck curve problem developing and it's only going to get worse. Much worse imo.

There are ways of dealing with it by shifting loads etc . A bit like the good old days when we used to have ' night rate ' hot water meters in Victoria to give the coal powered generators some load overnight .

We could try and approach the problem with a blunt instrument like the old days or we could be a bit smarter about it.

For sure there are some good ways and uses such as charging grid batteries, pumping water uphill, making green hydrogen etc. But, l don't think that will be enough. lt also requires considerable capital investment .

We will have a very large ev fleet. That's a given . Bought and paid for by the public just like they do today.

l have posted the huge energy storage capacity that an ev fleet will offer. The numbers are crazy.

That fleet will be parked 90% of the time. At least until self driving gets sorted which is a whole other discussion.

We have a large communication network already in place. We have a large power grid already in place. V2G and V2L is almost in place. All we need is the bit of infrastructure , e.g. smart chargers all over the place to connect the vehicles and voila !. We have a very large smart load to handle the duck curve. Already mostly paid for and mostly built.

For a very large portion of the ev fleet they will be connected most of their lives . They will be charged very cheaply if not for free while providing grid services at the same time. People will rarely have to think about charging their cars . People won't have to think about finding a charge point because they will be everywhere.

We won't have to build big things such Snowy 2.0 which may become redundant early in it's life because of the pace of technology change.

Australia has to address the duck curve . lt has no option. All it has to do is select the correct method of action .
