No they start with a large amount of shares and are willing to sell say half at a loss or maby they got them cheaper in the first place, then they slowly sell shares driving the price lower and hitting people's stops or people just get bored and sell out but they themselves have the bid stacked so most of the sold shares go back to them.
It's only a theory but if your playing the long game it can be done.
