seeing that electric cars and batteries are mentioned, then the following is relevant..
Amid another record sales year for new cars in Australia, electric vehicle sales have taken a huge dive. Just 219 electric cars were sold in 2016, out of nearly 1.2 million new vehicles which left Australian dealerships.

it would seem that rechargeable batteries might be ok for computers, garden lights (and these are even solar rechargeable) , but still not good enough for a vehicle.. well obviously if they are not good enough for a car, then they are not good enough for something a bit more than a car.
mmm and this is what the apologist renewable site says about the uptake of ev's..
Australian consumers are not buying electric vehicles, but around half of them would – possibly two-thirds – if there was more choice in the market, and greater economic incentive.

mm - well, it would be a no brainer that maybe 90% +++ of people would be happy to drive an electric car if the economics justified the purchase - only petrol heads would want to stick with petrol
the lead/acid battery has not changed much in the last 100 years - and is obviously the best battery to get a car started ... just waiting for a technological break through (and using a crank, might be green, but not many people would opt for that choice )
