Base load is an outdated term.
In some parts of Australia it is already being partly covered with renewables and that is steadily growing, the only thing holding things back is the electrical distribution network like in NSW where a lot got privatised and never updated.
SA has reported some days where it has already been 100% covered by renewables.

Peak load and off-peak load(night time) is where we have troubles and that is where Green hydrogen would kick in, either combusted or better as fuel cells.
This would be orders of magnitude cheaper than the cost of attempting to build nuclear power plants in Australia where they would only be part time required and by the time they would be finished and approved(hypothetically) maybe in 15-20 years, green hydrogen would have fully taken over.
Therefore Nuclear is pointless here in Australia.

Do NOT compare us to central Europe and the UK where the sun barely shines and the population density is orders of magnitude higher than here.
Every m^2 of land is in use over there, unlike the vast unused areas here in Australia that only suddenly become preservation grounds for the First Nation People when the white people find a use for it, so they can claim massive royalty payments.

I agree using hydrogen in cars is a dud. The physical problems with the tank and infra structure to fill it will always present a problem for what will stay a minority, while the rest of the world is working hard on creating enough EV charging stations to keep up with demand.
That is why FFI is focussing on using Hydrogen (specifically stored in Ammonia) for heavy industry and transport, not small vehicles.
