There is confusion over using hydrogen for domestic vehicles as opposed for green steel manufacture. e.g Liberty Steel announced on 4 March it would phase out its existing blast furnace at Whyalla Steelworks and build a new DRI-EAF. It will initially consume natural gas and hydrogen before shifting completely to green hydrogen.

Nippon Steel and peers ArcelorMittal, the world’s biggest steelmaker outside of China, and China Baowu Steel Group have all pledged to become carbon neutral by the middle of this century. always set 30 years in the future. It is the ideal number to create headlines without any pressure to actually achieve anything. When they fail they are quietly forgotten and nobody important is ever held responsible (they have long gone).
