Just quickly...
I believe the pilot phase will run over a 12 month period, due for completion around the end of the year, will have used 150 tonnes of lignite to produce 3 Tonnes of hydrogen gas.
Once successful the HECS consortium estimates a commercial-scale HESC project could produce 225,000 tonnes of clean hydrogen annually with carbon capture and storage.
Do the maths - that will require lot's of lignite to be dried.
"Would be good to know what system they are using for drying and milling developed specifically for Victorian brown coal?"
That's the right question..
The Latrobe Valley pilot facility has adopts a vertical mill with air-entrained dry system, as has been adopted by many existing pulverized coal-fired power stations, supplied by Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
In other words - current technology.
I've made my own assumptions on the type of data the HECS pilot pilot wrt lignite drying may generate on a small scale, and how that data would extrapolate on a large commercial scale.
Therein, lies the opportunity.
