However, efforts to scale hydrogen power generation would not succeed without robust hydrogen production and supply chains. In April, Mitsubishi Power began operating a 400-kilowatt (kW) solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) to produce hydrogen.It is also exploring next-generation technology for turquoise hydrogen, which directly splits the main component of natural gas, methane, into hydrogen and solid carbon. “Since it can be produced using existing natural gas infrastructure, turquoise hydrogen offers a promising pathway for integrating hydrogen into regions with limited low-cost renewable energy resources for green hydrogen production,” explains Ondo.
