Iron has been used by many methane pyrolysis developers. The Hazer patents only apply to the use of iron ore as a catalyst not iron in other forms. The Hazer advantage is in the cost of the catalyst. I don't know how much processing of the iron ore Hazer have to do, presumably just mill the stuff to reduce particle size. The amount of catalyst they use is not inconsiderable, but they've said many times that it is their big advantage.
