The point is can a competitor of HZR find a pathway to TCD that is energetically favourable and uses a catalyst that doesn't contaminate the produced graphite to a degree that it can be used for in for example LIBs (lets phrase it as "higher value economic applications").

Any different catalysts that is chosen will be a trade off, the question is will it be a favourable. A bit more expensive and easier to clean up would make the difference. So there is more to it that just picking some possibilities on a periodic table my friend.
