Fair comment, it does all come down to the economics. I was moreso speculating at what possible catalysts could they possibly be using?

Also seeing that they were experimenting with iron ore raised my suspicions to an extent that I needed to satisfy my curiosity. If they did all that, and then published in 2024 without due diligence or the scientific rigour to point out what should in their field be obvious prior work, it speaks the integrity of their process, or at the very least, some pretty poor prior research. (Note that theses are generally harder to get, and often not considered "finished" at the same level of a final published article though sometimes published articles are placed as chapters.)

There was patent pending for us in the US that was granted in April 2025. It also makes me wonder what their new "special sauce" is, and how far they got along the iron trajectory before they realised? It also makes me wonder if they have iron ore in their mix and just using 51% cobalt, or some such other frippery nullifies the whole thing or do they pay us a 49% royalty? Dunno, I'm not a patent lawyer. Bit of a brain fart, but there you go.
