The South Korean government has today announced two new tenders for hydrogen-fuelled power generation — one for clean H₂ and another for “general” hydrogen produced from unabated fossil fuels or as an industrial by-product.

Both tenders will also be open to the use of hydrogen derivatives such as ammonia, which can be co-fired in coal power plants.

South Korea introduced its first clean hydrogen power generation tender last year, which was widely seen as a failure after only awarding one contract — to co-fire clean ammonia at a coal plant — representing less than 12% of the volume that had been tendered.
