The SMR process extracts hydrogen from natural gas (CH4) and additional hydrogen from the steam H2O. However for every ton of H2 produced, around 10 tons of CO2 is produced. By contrast the Hazer process splits the CH4 producing 4 tons of graphite for every 1 of H2. So less hydrogen, but no CO2 and mountains of graphite.
