There are lots of uses for hydrogen that don't involve it being liquified and stored in heavy tanks or used in fuel cells. You can use it to run an ordinary internal combustion motor and generate electricity , you can use it instead of coke in steel making , you can make ammonia by the Haber-Bosch process you can even use it in oil refining.
