Sorry Tinny, I forgot about the exchange rate - you have a valid point there. The government is worried about the strong A$ as it means local exporting companies/farms will get less for their goods = lower profits = lower tax revenue.

The government might try and lower the A$ value - I see that Gail Kelly (Westpac) says that there is upward pressure on the A$ - so I don't think anyone is sure which way the A$/NZ$ is going to go but as they say, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
